RICHARD  N. V. PHUNG, OD

Dr. Phung is a Board Certified Optometrist in California and Oregon with over 30 years of experience in the optometric field. He is certified to diagnose and treat eye infections and ocular diseases. He also provides LASIK Co-Management. Dr. Phung has been practicing optometry in San Diego for over three decades.

Dr. Phung is Vietnamese-Chinese-American. He speaks all three languages fluently. He immigrated to the United States from Vietnam in 1975. Since then, he spent most of his time in San Diego and now sees San Diego as his hometown. As a U.S. citizen, Dr. Phung appreciates and enjoys every freedom and opportunity that the country has provided. In doing so, he worked very hard to achieve his American dream to become a Doctor of Optometry.

Dr. Phung graduated from Crawford High School in 1982 and then from UC San Diego in 1986 with a degree in Biochemistry. He continued his optometric training at the Southern California College of Optometry, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Visual Science in 1988, and a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1990.

Dr. Phung is a member of the American Optometric Association, California Optometric Association, San Diego County Optometric Society, SCCO Alumni, and the National Parks Conservation Association. He also volunteers with the Vision USA and Sight for Student to provide free exams and glasses for low income individuals.

In his free time, Dr. Phung enjoys activities such as: hiking, camping, nature, photography, nature oil painting, football, snowboarding, and playing classical guitar.

His goal is to provide excellent vision and eye care services to all patients with a personalized professional touch, as well as to establish a long-lasting healthcare relationship with his patients.
